Business Hub

The Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation is seen as a leader in the area of jurisdiction. With the construction and establishment of the First Nation’s business hub, it will soon take its place as a leader in the area of Indigenous business development.

In 2021, MSBD envisioned the creation of a central ‘Business Hub’ to be constructed within the City of Regina. The services of Oxbow Architecture were utilized to provide high level renderings of the proposed project which is expected to offer over 60,000 square feet of office space for Saskatchewan business enterprise.

The Nation is proceeding with a plan to acquire land in the City of Regina through the city’s Revitalization Process currently being undertaken at this time. Muscowpetung has decided to engage this process to facilitate collaboration with the City administration and it’s partners to secure a strategic land acquisition for the ‘Muscowpetung Urban Indigenous Business Hub.’ Our goal: To achieve placement of our urban business hub in the heart of the downtown core.

“WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE ARE ON TRADITIONAL LANDS OF THE TREATY 4 TERRITORY, A TREATY SIGNED WITH 35 FIRST NATIONS ACROSS SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN AND PARTS OF ALBERTA & MANITOBA AND THE ORIGINAL LANDS OF THE CREE, SAULTEAUX, DAKOTA, NAKOTA, LAKOTA, AND ON THE HOMELAND OF THE METIS NATION.”

To commence this process we first need to identify and acquire the surface tittle to the allotted land parcel. The land has not yet been determined as this has to be vetted through the City of Regina and its planning partners. This is why positive and innovative working relations with the City of Regina is essential in this process. Discussions and lobbying efforts have started.
Once our land plot is established, Muscowpetung’s Technical Team can then move forward with a rapid plan to achieve reserve status for our Nation.

Major considerations and work around the following will commence:

• MSN WILL HAVE TO INITIATE A STUDY TO IDENTIFY AND ADDRESS ANY ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS;

• MSN WILL HAVE TO INITIATE A “BEST EFFORTS” ENGAGEMENT PROCESS WITH MUNICIPAL & PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENTS TO IDENTIFY/ADDRESS THEIR CONCERNS;

• ONCE ALL INFORMATION IS SYNTHESIZED, THE MSN TECHNICAL TEAM WILL PROCEED WITH A REFINED RESERVE CREATION PROPOSAL.

MSBD has conducted initiating meetings with the City of Regina and Indigenous Services Canada in regard to our upcoming additions to reserve creation process. Notification of MSN’s intention to create an urban reserve has been issued and the necessary resources have been allocated to ensure that this process is followed through and executed in a timely manner. Muscowpetung is undertaking most activities concurrently.
