An exciting cultural hub for Education that celebrates and highlights Indigneous ways of knowing through the creation of a supportive, safe and inclusive learning environment where all feel at home, are valued and have opportunity for respect, growth and prosperity grounded in the richness of our culture.
This vision has been used as the basis for concept development and remains a key drive for articulating an architectural expression through the development.

PROJECT CONCEPT DESIGN GATHERING
Muscowpetung’s new Education Centre embodies the need for a new community and education hub within the community. At the outset, the process began with a clear understanding of the Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) School Space Administration Standards and an initial assessment of what the community enrollment and childcare needs will be into the near future. Following this initial assessment, the design team took the unique approach of designing the building from the inside out.
This approach ensured that the principal project drivers took precedence; these drivers included: Program integration, flexibility, and common spaces unique to the 21st Century educational environment and community hub of activities.
A series of Stakeholder working sessions held in the summer and fall of 2021 confirmed that the goals which have been discussed during the pre-design process were evident and achievable in the floor plans presented. Following the completion of these meetings, the emphasis of the design team shifted toward development and integration of the exterior and overall site development that was originally presented.
